The Role of DTV in HRD

SPEAKER: Dr. Faleh Al-Sulaiman

Dr. Faleh Al-Sulaiman is spearheading the vibrant activities of Dhahran Techno-Valley (DTV) at KFUPM. A graduate of UC Davis and Professor of mechanical engineering, Dr. Al-Sulaiman has more than three decades of experience in industry, academics, and societal services and at present he is actively working in developing an entrepreneurial culture in the University and the Kingdom at large.

TOPIC: The Role of Dhahran Techno-Valley in HR Development

Dhahran Technology-Valley (DTV) was a major undertaking by King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) to accommodate R&D technology centers of major technology-based national and international companies in the University. DTV is providing the necessary infrastructure for flourishing R&D environment and is making available a focal point for technical innovation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For overcoming such a challenge, the DTV also include other entities: the Innovation Center, the Business Incubation Program, the Consulting Services Center and the Liaison Office. These entities provide all the necessary success ingredients for establishing the most convenient platform for utilizing efficiently the brain power and the intellect of the both the University and science park scientific residents. At present there are 11 national/international and mega/small companies already functional in DTV and it is expected that in next 2-3 years DTV will host about 20 national and international major companies and about 60 small-medium sized companies. The human assets in DTV will be technically diversified and is expected to number more than 2,000. As a result of this significant technical mass, technology transfer in areas related to strategic needs of the Kingdom will result. This will assist strongly the local economy in changing its product base into the knowledge form and will support continuously the Saudi industry with the necessary qualified human resources.
